I am going to be changing both my front axleshaft u-joints on my dana 30 and just wondering what else should be inspected while I have the axleshafts out.

everything in sight
check for any ball joint movement .. steer knuckle should be solid on axle, no play, easy to test when you lift front end ... wheel still on .. try to wiggle wheel .. should be zero play
I just replaced a toasted balljoint, moved alot with wheel on .. it would not accept grease thru fitting, like clogged .. it was full of clay .. bad
You can use the control arm to hold brake caliper when working, I had to remove 1 brake pad to fit it, nice secure spot
wheel hubs, no play also .. take them off, rotate in hand
theres alot down there .. I replaced steer knuckle tie rod boots when i did my joints .. easy to reach with everything removed
with said tie rod detached
, its easier to check ball joint function, can turn steer knuckle easy .. inspect it
of course check brakes .. good luck
