Default axle shaft leak

I re did my axle shaft u joints a while ago. had a bit of a problem getting em in with the vac system on my d30, so I pulled the cover and got the ring on and slid the shaft in all the way. Now there's a small leak when I park on a hill, passenger side. Is there a seal or something I might have missed? I couldn't find anything in the FSM

On your XJ with the front axle disconnect, there is a seal just outboard of the disconnect which is probably the one that is leaking. You do not have to take apart the diff to access it.

Look in your FSM Group 2, Front Suspension and Axle under "Intermediate Axle Shaft" for info on how to remove and install this seal...you will have to fabricate a special tool.

I appreciate the replies, those diff seals seem like a pain. I checked that section of the fsm, it didn't say anything about a seal, just a retaining clip inside the diff. My understanding of the axle is that the intermediate shaft and the differential are supposed to lubed by the same oil, and the outside shafts remain dry, I can almost garuntee there's something I'm missing...

See turbo XJ's post. It isn't uncommon for the seals to leak shortly after you pull the shafts to change the U-joints, particularly if they are older.

Again, the seal that is leaking is probably the one OUTBOARD of the axle disconnect...you DO NOT have to get inside the diff. Take the cover off of the disconnect housing and look outboard and you will see it. Go to Quad 4X4.com for additional help.
