Default axle seal

Can anyone tell me what the hell the foam type ring is around the axle seal? I damaged it replacing mine and wondered if it would cause it to leak again or did I install it wrong?

Nothing fellas? Maybe I described it wrong. It looks like maybe a second ring that goes around the axle seal. It was foam like when part of it came off. Is there a second seal there I should be ordering?

Well no pic unless I open it up again. Wanted to avoid that because its my dd untill I get whatever parts I may need. It's the front axle. I pulled the old seal out and there seam to be a foam type ring around it on the inside of the axle

By the way I searched the internet everywhere and can't find a pic of this. The only thing that looks close is a 7.125 rg seal. But mine seams foam like and is around the axle seal

He's asking-What axle (front/rear, Dana 44 etc), what year etc... People can't help you with only vague descriptions. Sorry.

If you are referring to the orange seal in the following pic....that's the tube seal.

That's the one. Sorry its a 98 Dana 30 front axle. So do they make one that has the tube and axle seal all in one? And how hard is it to press one of these in? Do I need a special tool?

You don't need to touch it, it is not a replaceable seal. This the only seal you need to be concerned with, with regards to the axle shafts...

Your Jeep will explode and kill a bunch of Nun's and Orphans.......

Nothing at all. There's plenty between the tube and housing still. Nothing to worry about unless you are leaking gear oil between the housing and the tube, and that's unlike;y.

Depends on if you damaged them or not.
