Hello everyone,
I need to know what gears are in my rear axle, I know that it is a Dana 44 stock with the tow package. This was a sweet find.

thanks for the help.
P.S. sorry if my searching skills didnt lead me to a similar post.

I'm going to guess it is a 4.0 so in a Auto 3.55 5-speed 3.73. My Blue XJ has a is a 4.0 5-speed with a D44 and it has 3.73from the factory.

V This says with the tow package you should have 3.73's. It comes from the Helpful Links!!!

OK, so the rear dana 44 should have 3.73's in it. Now lets say that I'm not sure and need to know becuase the front tag says it has 3.07's.

Pull the diff covers off count teeth and do the math. No tags or stamp means ya gotta count. Don't guess do it right.

If there is no tag then you will have to pull the cover and find the numbers stamped into the ring gear (tooth count), for example, numbers like 11 41 would be a 3.73 gear (41/11= 3.727). Divide the larger number by the lower and you will find out which ratio it is.

On some axles you can check on the side (facing you) of the ring gear for a sequence of numbers... such as 41-9 (usually at the end of the sequence). Divide for your drive ratio.
Jack the rear axle, count how many times (exactly like 3.5 times) the driveshaft spins compared to each revolution of the tire.
edit: ^ u beat me to it
