Default Axle?

So, from what I can obviously tell, I have a Chrysler 8.25 with 3.55 gear ratio. Is that good? Any insight?

In a 2001, you have pretty have the axle you want. 29 splines and almost as strong as the Dana 44. If it doesn't make any noise and you want to make it a trail rig, throw a locker in that baby and call it a day. Be happy you don't have the Dana 35.

Be better if it was locked. Is that another rust free XJ? Bet there's not many of those stickers left.

Sure is rust free! Except for the usual things such as the headers and the drive shaft have surface rust.

Ya you have it Chrysler 8.25, 29 spline axle shafts, 3.55:1 gear ratio. Your front axle is a Dana 30 low pinion.

What trails & tires do you want to go with? Moderate 31"-33" & limit is about 35" tires

Ahahah. There we go. I'm 16 and this is my first "rig". I'm not a big mechanic but how hard is it to install a locker without screwing up?

Aussie auto locker is about as easy as it gets! Follow the instructions & it will be locked in an hour!

Heck Yah! Ive got a 99 2 wheel drive that hauls a$$. Its got great acceleration(better than my 96 4.0 manual and 01 auto) due to no parasitic drivetrain loss. The 99 year also has a great combination of parts on the 4.0 such as last year tubular headers, 1st year equal length intake manifold, last year distributor and high flow injectors. Ive only had one Cherokee with a stickerband around the rear axle, and its my 01. Like yours. Is yours the SilverStone Metallic?
