Axel Spline count question

Axel Spline count question
Hey guys, I read somewhere that a 96 model Cherokee with a 8.25 rear end, could have 2 different axle spline counts. Depending on the manufacture date. What would the cut off date be for the 27 spline, and beginning of the 29 spline. Or is there another way of telling besides pulling the shafts and counting? Thanks in advance

you'll have to check to make sure, but to give you an idea, i'd say from august of 96 you might have 29 splines, and earlier will probably have 27 splines.
i have a 96 from septembre that has the 29 splines, and a junkyard XJ from august of 96 was also 29 splines.
but like I said, the only way to make sure is to get in there next time you service your diff oil.
