Ok I've searched everywhere for a new rubber boot that goes under the center console and seals water and stuff from coming through the floor. The one I have is just turning to dust. I thought I could repair it but the thing is completely falling apart. I read someone has replaced theirs with some other model I think. Mine is a 98 xj so what options do I have? I'd like an original replacement but that seems like it's not happening.

I was in this same boat with my 98. I never did find one. The round ones arent anywhere close to what we need. I searched high and low. Ordered 2 and neither were right even though they were listed as fits 98 5 speed.

I ended up using alot of duct tape and making the world's worst shifter boot. i had the center console off 2 months ago and after 3 years it help up well.

What was wrong with the round one? Just didn't cover the hole probably? What do you think if I made a sheetmetal cover and fit the round one do you think it would work?

The problem is that the hole isnt round.

I'm sure if you really wanted to put the time and effort into it you could rig something up to work with the round one

I'm going to try something I thought about while looking at it. Your probably going to laugh but, Flex seal makes a rubber tape which I'm going to use to re enforce the boot where falling apart and then I'm going to spray the Flex seal inside and outside of the boot to recoat all of it. I'll post up pictures and see if it works.

I'm not going to laugh at that. You do what you gotta do man that's better than the triple layer duct tape idea I had lol

ok check this out. I took Flex seal tape and went on the inside of the boot. I found that small pieces were better to handle cause for one the Crap is really really sticky. I pulled the boot apart like an accordion and applied the tape on the inside towards the transmission. Then where the shifter handle comes through I taped the top and put a piece under as well and stuck them together where the hole use to be. The hole was about the size of a silver dollar cause the rubber was missing. Then as the photos show I put a little weight to separate the folds and shot a few coats of Flex seal on it. Tomorrow when it's set up good I'm going to flip it and stretch it again and shoot the inside.
