It sounds like a bearing isnt liking you can not letting the synco's to do their job. Might want to change the oil and see if that helps. I noticed a significant change when I switched to fully synthetic 75W-90 oil, I can grab 2nd in the morning again!

try pumping the clutch twice before shifting gears. by that i mean, while in-gear and at high speeds/rpms, push in the clutch and take out of gear, before going into the next gear, while still out of gear release the clutch then push it back in, then push into gear. See if that helps. or try slowly shifting gears, dont just jam it into the next gear, slowly take it out of one gear and slowly engage it into the next. couple solutions to help get by.
neither will solve the situation but it could help manage it until your able to get it fixed. personally i cant use my 5th gear on my AX15 as I get a horrible vibration when i try to coast with it. so im getting by with 1st-4th until i can rebuild the sob.
I think it has something to do with it getting hot. i notice on mine when it gets hot from driving around a lot, i seem to have issues shifting between gears, but when its cold no problem. very possible different lubricant could help your situation but i know my tranny is going out so lub change wouldnt help me any.

Not really.... I don't think a cooler for a manual transmission in a passenger car exists. It would need a pump of sorts. Instead your fluid just kinda hangs out in there. But changing it would be a good idea.

Sounds more like your clutch slave or master cylinder are leaking. Driving around town keeps the hydraulics pressurized more consistently as your constantly working the clutch pedal for stop & go traffic. Driving on the highway for long periods would bleed down the clutch hydraulics and make the transmission seem to shift with more difficulty. Check your fluid level at the clutch master cylinder for proper level.
