Default AX-15 Fluid Error

I went on a "learning adventure" tonight after realizing that I had no clue about AX-15 transmission oils. Apparently Redline MT-90 and Amsoil MTG are preferred, with synthetic 10W-40 being an acceptable alternative. Synchromesh lubes are not the proper viscosity for the AX-15.

Which sucks, because I have no clue what was used by the previous owner...and about a year ago (3000 miles) I topped the thing off with a half quart of GL-5 gear oil, which eats synchros.

Silly me, thinking GL grades were backwards compatible.

It looks like tomorrow I'm draining the tranny and doing a fluid replacement. Amsoil and Redline are not readily available locally...so I think I'm going to run Royal Purple 10W-40 until I can get my hands on a preferred oil.

Anyone have any other suggestions??

10w30 is what a Jeep Dealership will put it in, but I used Pennzoil Syncromesh last change and have been happy with it to date.

Thanks for the input guys!

I was able to find Redline MT-90 locally today...and WOW...the improvement in shifting was immediately apparent.

The more you know, eh?
