The manual calls for synthetic 70w-90. 75w-140 when towing.

You live in indiana.. Why no synthetic? Stays fluid in nasty cold weather, big mileage benefit too. Anyway, I used 75W90 in mine, both front and rear.

Thanks, I guess synthetics turned me off when they found a leak in my axle seals on my Wrangler. I just don't like synthetics on older vehicles, they find leaks that otherwise wouldn't appear with dino oil, I use dino oil, not saying synthetic isn't good stuff, it just treated me bad (I know the leak was there to begin with, but I hold a grudge agin' it)

The synthetic didn't cause the leak. It removed the crap that was plugging the leak.

FWIW, I use Mobil 1 75w-90 synthetic in my '98 with no leaks.

Generally synthetic gear oil is slick enough that you don't need the LSD additive.

Front axle will be a D30.

Rear is usually a 8.25 unless you have a ABS then its a D35. Either can be LSD.

Why not pull the diff cover off? Then you don't have to worry about leaks if sealed properly with ATV. I just did mine and used 80-90 gear oil.

Actually, it's my rear pinion seal that's leaking, getting it fixed, just want to top it off in case it's low till then.
