i borrowed a pilot bearing puller from partsource. just had to pay for the tool, but got a 100% full refund upon return.
but there are a few different ways you can try to get that pilot bearing out.
you can pack the hole full of grease and hydraulically push the bearing out using a dowel or ratchet handle that fits tightly in the pilot hole and hit it with a hammer.
or you can use wet paper towel for the same result.
but the bearing puller worked in seconds with no clean up.

Are you sure you got an ax15 and not an ax5. They use different pilot bushings.

the external slave AX-15s have a pilot bushing with an ID of ~.75in (OD 1.816)
the internal slave AX-15s ahve a pilot bushing with an ID of ~.5934in (OD 1.05)
Fortunately, I found out that the early 70s CJs with a 304 V8 and the T15 have a ID of .75 and an OD of 1.05
SO tomorrow Im gonna go parts hunting and see which of the places has one of these

i believe the cj uses a pilot bushing, where as your jeep uses a pilot bearing.
don't think it would really matter, but i would prefer the bearing rather than a brass bushing. just my opinion.
but i didn't know about the internal vs. external pilot bearing size difference.
i'm sure your local jobber can order the proper bearing in tho.
i have about 3 spare pilot bearings in the garage for my tj's, i can measure them out tomorrow. they are for external slave ax15 tho. but if one will work for you, i'll send you one.

So what did you end up doing with the AX15? man, there was this guy here trying to pass off an AX5 as a 15, I thought I had gotten lucky with this one, until today and we started trying to bolt it up, seems like all sorts of problems started popping up, should have been an omen
first these bellhousing bolts wouldnt come out, then exhaust wouldnt come out, then the brackets for the TC wouldnt bolt up to the new trans so I had to grind off a mounting ear, then the since the new one had the external I had to change out the front bearing cover, then we had it all ready to pop in, and it wouldnt slip in, so we pulled it out and different pilot bearings

Yea I really dont care that its a bushing, the things got 275K on the clock, so Im sure that the brass bushing would outlast the rest of the Jeep, hahaha

I did the slave swap, got the right bearing, and modified the cross member because i couldn't get the bolt holes to line up. I got my bearing from NAPA if that helps!!!
