Default AX-15 bellhousing bolts

Ok I am replacing the AX-15, and I was wondering the top 2 bolts on the bellhousing seem to be tiny 3/8th or 10mm bolts

yet the holes on the replacement are huge, do these bolts attach to the engine?

or do they just attach to the plate between the engine and the trans?

And what size are they exactly?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

It should be external torx bolts. They are a star shape. You have to have a torx socket to get them out. Im not exactly sure what size they are. E10 I believe?

ah i see, well that makes sense

Geez, chrysler engineers, all of them were regular, and then the last 2 on top had to be "special".

Do you know if they go all the way through to the block?

Yeah there e12s and a pain in the @$$ and you can't replace them with a normal bolt you won't have clearance around the bolt head for a socket trust me lol so don't lose them.

I never will understand why chrysler did that. Or why they only used 4 bellhousing bolts.

The ones in my AW-4 were e-12 external torx. I couldn't get to the passeger side (socket kept slipping off), so I got in the engine compartment and got it out with my 3/8 ratcheting wrench......allot better than trying to get it with a socket.

If you remove the cross member and drop the back of the tranny they can be reach a lot easier with a long extension ( preferably 1/2" drive).

I couldn't get the crossmembers bolts out. Are those self tapping bolts in there or do they have nuts welded in there?

the one closer to the rear is a stud with a nut and the other one is a bolt with a threaded hole, not sure about a welded nut but there is something. i just wanted to chime in i've been following this thread today and i'm hung up on the same bolts
