What the difference between the 2wd and the 4wd AW4 transmission. I talked to the dealership and they only sell to transmissions for the Jeep Cherokee, manual and automatic. Now my question is, whats the difference between the 2wd and 4wd transmissions? Is there an adapter that bolts up the transfer case?

 

Tailshafts are different and I think that is it but they are designed as one or the other. They are not adaptable because the mainshaft and housing is shorter on the 4WD version. The dealership is mistaken on this one.

 

Blue is correct, the 4WD output shaft is ~7" shorter. The gearcut for the speedo, and rear bearing are in different locations as well.
