AW4 slips after fluid/filter change
Oh good, I thought you were coming back to tell us not to.change our oil either! BTW our opinions are ours, we know how to work on our own vehicles. Not the hearsay opinion of some "transmission" expert at God knows what shop. Theres a shop full of idiots down at the aamco by my work that probably all consider themselves transmission experts. I wouldn't let em work on my lawn mower!

hi, i had similar problems after filter/fluid change. The filter i got didnt fit 100%, it looked like it did but the litle tub that goes up in the tranny was a litle to short. Changed back to the old filter and it works okey.

For the record this is totally not the issue. The filter was the correct part but it was machined wrong. The boss for the intake seal was about 3/64" too short. I've done enough work on XJs to know what parts are what lol

Well that's for pretty much every auto trans. It has to fill up the radiator when it starts, that's why you always check trans fluid while the car is running.
this is a common thing with automatics according to my trans guy. he told me to only flush a trash if they have under 100k (roughly) on them otherwise you risk it slipping after. i asked him if it was a good idea on my cherokee (138k) and he said he wouldn't risk it.
This^ Trans fluid is basic out of the jug, it becomes acidic over time, replacing it with new can cause the clutches to fall apart.
SOMETIMES.

Read Post #9 from Jon Kelley. He knows his stuff very well. The AW4 is not a normal automatic transmission.
