I have a 1990xj 4.0 auto and I started it up and it will not shift unless you wind it to 5000 rpm and it will only shift to second not any more?? Until today it has had no problems, anybody have any idea's?? I washed my engine off this morning but i drove it after that and it was fine until i stopped and got back in?

 

its probably the throttle possitioning sencer that made my truck do the same thing its like a 15 dollar part at autozone

Sounds like it could be the TPS. Depending on where you go, they can run anywhere from $20-$30, approx. Super easy to take out and replace.

 

yeah that was my bad i just checked its 34.99 from autozone with a 2 year warrenty
