Tranny Clunking
I just got my First 93 Cherokee inline 6 4.0 with 196000 miles, and bought a AW4 Tranny with 135000 miles on it.. I put it in and while idleing it sounds like the tourque converter is clunking like its off balance or flex plate is warped or something idk, any thoughts? i know jeeps can make alot of noises but idk bout this one.

Cherokees have a common issue where the exhaust pipe lays on the transmission crossmember, and rattles up and down on it. This could be the issue.

That's how the exhaust rattle works. At a stop, the vibrations are enough that it causes the pipe to bounce. When you accelerate to higher RPMs, it smooths out and prevents the rattles.
Nope not eahaust layed under it and held the exhaust and its not hitting the crossmember and still making rattling noise like the flexplate is hitting something. When i put tranny in i didint put plate the the sitts between the block and tranny on top. could that have something to do with it?
