Just replaced the aux fan on my 97 xj 4.0..when i noticed i ordered a counterclockwise (left) spinning fan..will this cause problems..
OK so I just did this too.
And you have me wondering.
Thanks for that. LOL.
Should be pulling air through the radiator into the engine compartment.
Best I can tell from the internet.
When you say counterclockwise from where are you looking at it?
So I think I am OK.
It look like it spins clockwise when looking at it by the drivers fender when looking to the front of the Jeep.
My old factory one and my cheap Ebay one have an arrow on them.
Going with this is the direction it spins.
Mopar one is the first shot.
I'm looking at it from the driver's fender..but if one is spinning left and the other spinning right wouldn't that cause an overheating problem..under certain circumstances

If it's spinning the opposite per Ralphs pictures, I think that if the fins are slanted in the opposite direction, then it's probably fine. If the aux fan is blowing air forward, out the grill, instead of pulling into the engine compartment, then you're going to have unexpected behavior.
Precisely! The direction of rotation doesn't really matter as long as it's pulling air in thru the radiator, not pushing it out the grill. Both those fans in the photos should be spinning clockwise looking at them on the ground, judging by the shape of the blades. They will be scooping air from the radiator and pushing it out toward you. Don't judge by the curve of the blades, but by the angle they are set at.
