I fluctuate about 50-100rpm with the current problem.

Where would I find the low pressure switch? If I disconnect it and problem solved, then that is a positive diagnosis of low charge, correct?

I've been suspecting a leak for awhile, as the AC hasn't worked for a couple years. Here in New Mexico, it's only towards mid July that you really wish you had cold air...
The low pressure cycling switch is located on top of the AC Accumulator. If you unplug it the AC won't work at all. Not a positive diagnosis. You would need to have an AC shop hook up their gauges to check the pressures.

You may have a leak in your AC Evaporator. Very common problem, but it could be any component in the system leaking.

Gotcha. But if I pull it and the cycling stops, I've isolated the issue to the AC system at least.

I can handle not having AC for a bit.

Also, sometimes the Evap purge solenoid sounds like it's working overtime...another hint at a leak?

I'm assuming in my case that I don't have a leak, since I've had AC all summer. I'm thinking it just needs to be charged. Again, that's just an assumption, and ASSumptions usually mean making an A$$ of yourself. I'll get it checked out, and clean the IAC when it gets warm again. Unfortunately that's about 1.5 to 2 months away.

TFitz,
I'm going to spend some time on the problem this weekend. I'll let you know if progress is made and what I learn.

Here's this weekends scoop: weather was sunny and in the 60s, and try as I might I couldn't get the compressor to cycle on. Tried defog, AC, cranked everything up...nope.

Went to a shop and their quote to just check pressures was ridiculous...so I didn't do it. But between this thread and knowing there is a leak in my Jeep, I'm sure both our problems are due to low system pressure.

Don't you hate how that happens?!

I ended up being sick as all hell this weekend, so I wasn't able to take it to a shop or check anything myself.

Did you pull the IAC and give it a look or cleaning?

Dude, it drives me up the wall when I can't recreate a problem...

I did not pull the IAC, as my idle is very nice and steady when everything is "happy". If you want though, I can pull it and send photos so you can compare against yours.

Man, I hear you. It happens to me without fail all the time!

Yeah, that'd be cool. I think mine might be a bit dirty considering I know my jeep wasn't driven very much before I picked it up. While the body, interior, and engine compartment are very clean, most maintenance items needed replacing, cleaning, or changing. The IAC, TB cleaning, and TPS check are things I haven't done yet and my idle isn't the greatest even with the defrost/defog off, so I'm sure it needs a cleaning.

So yeah, after that long drawn out explanation, I'd like to see what your IAC looks like. How many miles have you put on the jeep since you last cleaned it? Just to get an idea if it isn't perfectly clean.

Got a buddy who does HVAC work? Check fb for a local 4x4 club and see if someone does work. I check alot of them in my local group. It's not hard to throw some guages on them if you have the tools.
