Default Automatic Transmission model??

Hi all,

Quick question about my new '99 cherokee. I have an automatic transmission that lists AW 30-43LE as the model# on the id plate on the tranny. My chilton manual lists the 30 as a 3-speed transmission but, my shifter inside has 1-2, 3, D.

Thanks!

You have the Inline 6 engine... then it should be the AW4 4 speed auto.

Automatic transmissions
1984 – 1986 : Chrysler A904 3-speed automatic, used with 2.5 L I4 and 2.8 L V6.
1994 – 2000 : Chrysler 30RH 3-speed automatic, used with 2.5 L I4.
1987 – 2001 : Aisin-Warner AW-4 4-speed automatic used with 2.5 L I4 and 4.0 L I6.

All this assumes you have a Cherokee and not a Grand Cherokee. Those trannys are different from those listed by prerunner.

Blue is right, is it a Grand cherokee or a Cherokee?

If you have a 99 XJ (Regular Cherokee) and it has the 4.0 motor and Auto matic tranny, then you have an AW-4.

Definitely a XJ. So I have the AW-4 than.

Thanks all.
PS. I saw someone recommended when picking up a new vehicle to change the power steering fluid (130k miles). Anyone know where the plug is to drain this? The chilton manual did not saw.

Default 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4x4 V-6

What tranny's came in the 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4x4 V-6? I can currently only drive in 4 wheel drive due to the fact that the person who owned the vehicle before me broke the front drive shaft inside the tranny. All help is appreciated.

Spoiler alert. Your driveshaft does not go into the transmission. Transfer case problem is the deal. Just sayin'....

Little confused here. Sounds like the rear drive shaft is missing?
