Automatic Transmission cooler
My oldest son called me, and said he was going to visit from FL. He ask if we could install a trans cooler. I told him we could do it real quick. We disagree on the routing of the hoses. I live in PA where it gets cold. I want to run it back through the radiator after the cooler. He just wants to run just the cooler, or after the radiator. Now I don't know who is right. I would like to hear from the forum on the subject. Thanks

He (the son) lives in Florida. Bypass the rad and put it somewhere it won't interfere with the AC condensor and rad flow. It already has enough problems with air movement. He doesn't need to have the engine coolant help warm up the tranny fluid where he lives. Not like us in Michigan and Ontario where it's 10 months of hockey and 2 months of lousy ice skating.

Per the instructions with our B&M #70264 cooler.......for tranny warm-up in cold weather and max cooling when hot, run both coolers.......factory cooler 1st, auxiliary cooler 2nd.

Yes it is important that the fluid goes through the radiator. Running just a cooler can cause the fluid temp to be ALL OVER the place. Hot one minute, cold the next. The transmission needs to stay at a constant. And yes even in florida you want the trans fluid to warm up as quickly as possible.
In my Grand Cherokee I know the trans temp is very critical. Its like a different transmission when it is cold. It has four or five different modes to run in dependant on the fluid temp.
