after driving my 1996 jeep Cherokee for about 35 to 40 miles I seen a blue cloud of smoke coming out from behind it. when I got stopped I seen that the fluid was coming from the dipstick filler tube. does anybody know why? the jeep is an automatic with four wheel drive, 4.0 high output. please help me!

Start by checking the fluid level. Checking at normal operating temp idling in natural on level ground. If it is over full drain it until you have the correct level.

Bands are slipping, causing excess friction and heat.
Heat causes expansion of the ATF. It's going to go out the easiest opening, which is the dipstick tube.

Don't know if I'd be going that route yet. Other things can cause it to over heat if that's what's happening(cooler lines kinked, damaged, partially blocked). What's the fluid look like? Your sure the vent and tube are clear?
