i have trolled the forums but cant seem to find anyone with the same problems i am facing, so here goes, i apologize if its a common question.

my mother got this jeep over 8 years ago and it since day one, has needed to be manually shifted from 1-2 to 3 (or drive) but if you try to put it in 3 or drive from a dead stop, the motor will rev but you dont move anywhere. she never had the money to have it professionally fixed, and i have been doing alternators/tires/cooling/suspension work on it but never really tackled this haunting issue.

i recently bought my mom a nicer, rust free, 2000 cherokee sport, that runs great, has a/c and all in all better shape. So mom got that and i want to get this older 175k machine in good shape, so we can all share an extra vehicle. And in time this will be my offroading toy.

Her mechanic back in the day said that it may be a tcm or a solenoid, but i was wondering if that symptom was specific enough to rule one of those out
