The transfer case is not as fussy as the transmission.

The Lucas Multi-ATF should be fine for the TC.

Does your transmission have fresh fluid? For that, I recommend ONLY Dex/Merc III compatible fluid.

You don't need to go to the dealer, you'll get fleeced and they will likely recommend that you use ATF+4, which is not what the manufacturer of the transmission recommend (Asin Warner). I don't recommend it! Search and you'll find lots of threads on this. Some (not all to be fair) experience "slippage" when they use ATF+4. Nobody has issues with Dex/Merc III compatible and it has been proven to provide a long service life for the AW4 transmission.

Just look for Dex/Merc III compatible. True, licensed Dex/Merc III is not available any longer, so look for compatible. Widely available and not that expensive.

I'd just stick with DexIII for the TC. That way, you use the same fluid for both.

Is there a certain brand / oil, I should be looking for? Will the Lucus ruin something if I use it??

The Lucas will probably be fine in the TC but if it does not say DexIII/Mercon compatible, don't use it in the tranny.

Why would you want to use the Lucas in the tranny if not DexIII compatible?

This is what you want, not necessarily the same brand, but Dex/Merc. We run this in my brother's '89 withh the AW4 and have no problems in the five years we've had it. Don't use anything that does not say Dex III compatible, or ATF+4

Please.... If you want best for your AW4: listen to the Dex/Merc advice

If you wanna experiment, go and experiment.
But then don't come with a thread: my trans is acting all f#*cked up.
