The wiring is a Painless brand aux harness with 3 circuits and its own relay triggered by ignition switch. Two more relays for exterior lights. The wires are in looms because that is the safe and proper way to run them, not to mention it looks better. Engine bay fires are often due to improper wiring or chafing.
There is also an alligator clip you may have noticed. When connected to positive terminal it powers a strong air compressor in cargo area for filling tires (two at a time). When I install a relay on it it can be wired in permanently.

 

Be on the look out for PO treasure. I found a 9/16" box end wrench in my 2000. Ask if you can have the maintenance records (dealership records at bare minimum so you can check what they "fixed").
