I have a 99 Classic XJ with stock suspension. I went to order a set of Pro Comp MT's 30-9.50-15's today and the guy at 4-wheel parts said that I would need at least a 3" lift to fit that size tire on the truck. He said that a 30" tire would rub really bad on stock suspension
. I have the stock tires on the truck 225-75-15. Is anyone or has anyone ran a 30" mud terrain tire on a stock cherokee?? If so how bad was the rubbing on road and off road. Thanks a lot for the help!

I ran 31's on my XJ with a 1 3/4 inch front spacer in the front and no lift in the back. The tires did rub in the back, especially going over decent bumps and along washboard roads when offroading. You should be able to fit 30's on the street for sure and they will probably rub a little offroad. If you're cool with it, you can trim the fenders. My fenders weren't trimmed at the time, now they are.

Spencer is pretty much right on. A small (2" or less) spacer in the front and a shackle extension in the rear will get you clearance enough for 30s. If you go a little taller you can squeeze 31s under there but this is also considering different wheels with a 3.75-4" backspacing too.

So with stock suspension will 30's rub on and off road badly?
My '97 has the upcountry suspention package, but i understand thats only about 1" worth of lift.
Of course i havent "flexed it out" yet, but seems o.k. so far.

The type of tire shouldn't matter, just the size. If you're running a stock wheels I think you can get away with it. You may have to trim some but not too much. A little off the inside of the rear of the front flares, if that makes sence!! I see guys running 30s on stock XJs all the time, it will not rub too bad...if you're on stock wheels. AM wheels have more offset and will rub more. HTH!! Keep us posted, and pics always help!! Laters!!

My 93 has 30".. and dont rub.. I believe the suspension is stock as it does not appear that anything underneath is not stock. In my picture the tires dont even rub.. Even turning as tight as I can, I can not tell that the tires rub at all.
It also depends on how much your suspsension has sagged over it's life. I have seen people mention (maybe on here) that the 235/75/15s they are running rub or are close to rubbing... yet I cant get the 30s to rub..

i have a 00 on 30" bfg's and yeah they rub a little when turning but other than that its fine...for 30's id reccomend a 2'' BB if you dont want any rubbing...
rough country, rubicon express and skyjacker have BB's for around $225 with shocks
and teraflex, rustys and some other companys make kits around $100 with out shocks...
on a 2" BB you can use your stock shocks...

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I went ahead and ordered a set of Pro Comp MT's 30-9.50's
. I have the stock wheels so hopefully there won't be much rubbing. I don't do any hardcore wheeling, just want the Jeep to get me to my deer stand and fishing hole. Hopefully I'll get a Rusty's 3" lift put on next year so the rubbing won't be an issue. I'll post some pics this weekend. Thanks again. While I'm typing, has anyone had issues with the gauges just quitting to work randomly, then comming back on randomly
? Thanks.

Stock wheels are key!! If you're not on stockers there will be more rubbing!!
