I would think H4 bulbs would be way brighter than Sylvania Halogens.

Thanks!
Black and red pigtails with a connector on the other end?

What do you mean extra harnesses?

Any upgrade to the headlights should also include a factory wiring harness upgrade to include larger gage wires and relays to remove the load from the factory switch - which is a common failure point. I recommend the eautoworks h4 harness - just plug and play.

a lot of h4 conversion lenses also have little colored accent lights that you can hook up if you wish to a switch. Is that what you are referring to?

Didn't read all 3 pages of posts.....but here's my take on HID's for the XJ.

I picked up a set of H4 glass lens housings, a set of D2R OE-style bulbs in 5000K color, a set of H4 HID bulb shields, a relay harness, and 2 OE Hella ballasts.

Altogether a little pricier than a drop in ebay kit, but the light output and functionality is great. I have had this installed for over 8 months with no issues. Oncoming traffic has not flashed me either for my lights being bright and in their eyes.

I just returned the projectors. The light was just too dim. I read another listing that they were made for looks not functionality. I was thinking of just copping some H6054 Silverstars. They look bright as HIDs but not as bright.

Depends on the bulb connection or style. They have harnesses with resistors. I'm not a fan of adding resistors, can cause problems. If needed, I can try to reassemble mine for anyone to see. But the connection are universal. If the bulbs where dim, try giving it a separate power source. I built mine from scratch and are ALMOST as bright as these Honda owner. The projection lens is good for dispersing light from on coming traffic.
