I have a 97 Sport. What is this little box in the headliner between the visors? I took it down and there is a circuit board inside.

I've actually wondered the same thing. I have like a little infrared sensor on my box though. I assume it's for the alarm system. Do you have power door locks and an alarm?

It's for the keyless remote system.

Is the sensor exposed through the plastic housing? The housing on mine is smooth with nothing on the exterior side.

Do you ever have a problem locking or unlocking it with the remote? If not, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I believe I have a small infrared sensor on mine because my alarm is aftermarket (horn is LOUD). I bought my rig from someone who didn't live in the greatest neighborhood so I understand him trying to be extra safe :P
