Wix. When I took the higher capacity filter off the adbv was working flawlessly. Now I'm stumped. I never used to get dry starts now all of a sudden I get em quite often. Oil pressurize stays at 0 for a second or two then pops up to about 50.

So 2 different noises?

A clattering on start-up til pressure builds?
After that, a grumbling noise like a worn water pump?

Besides breaking a water pipe and flooding my shop ( in construction), with the shutoff 150 feet away, & prepping the garden beds, I'm roughing out an electric/solar water pump system to fill my tank up on the tower.

The prime on the pump here turns out to be a little more tricky that I'm accustomed to. Longer story short, on this, a surprisingly small amount of air will ether prevent it from priming, or once it managed to run but pumped at a sower rate, (and stayed that way), until I primed it better.

U runnen' some uncommonly thin oil? I'm not familiar with how the pick-up tube seals to the pump. O ring in a vacuum? Gasket? Just a thought. Going FROM nothing to full bore is what a pump does when it primes.

Sorry Btw....maybe you should put some real oil in there till you figure it out.

Another thought along the same line....if the pump is a bit worn, could it depend more on residual oil left from last start to move that air out and prime?

U got it. The noise is more of a tinny rattle then a grumble now that I listen again.

I wonder if you've got a lifter or two bleeding down.

That cause the oil pressurize to stay down while they fill back up?

I'd certainly have a peek at the bearings. Could replace them. The thing is the cam bearings could be worn and you can't see them. You don't want this to turn into a rebuild, do you?

Weren't you leaning toward the slow build of oil pressure being lifters?
