Just wondering if anyone else is using this filter and what your experience has been. Seems to work great but I've had a couple of slightly dry starts recently. Worked perfect at first but after 400 miles or so it seems to do it every now and then... It was doing this with the stp filter that used to be on it and I thought it was just a crappy filter. On the plus side my oil pressurize used to drop to about 15 after extenders driving.... Now it stays above 20 at all times and is always 40 by 1500 rpm

I just use the standard size Wix or Napa Gold specified for the Cherokee. That way they have the proper anti-drainback valve. A bigger filter isn't needed. Change your oil and filter frequently and you'll have no problems.

The anti drain back valves are different? Thought they were all the same.

I'm not sure they are the same. Think about it. A filter designed for normal mounting versus one designed for upside down mounting may not have the same valving. If you get one by application for your Jeep, I would feel pretty sure it's got the proper ADBV versus one for a 460 ford or something.

Stock replacement is fine in a Wix or Napa Gold by vehicle application. We don't need bigger. Our 4.0s hold 6 quarts of oil which is more than most V-8s.

Was thinking, on a old engine who's days are numbered, just a little more flow, just a little less back-pressure might make the difference of a rod finally going. At any pressure below the relief valve pressure any resistance from a junked up filter would mean less oil to the engine, it would seem. Bigger filter, more time with less resistance. Btw, Slick!

That ^ from a guy looken at 300K.

Correct however its specs are a little better then the stock filter, it holds more and the threads and o ring match. It is a perfect fit. Cruiser I know we have huge oil pans... I love that. Do you know why my oil pressure would run 20+ at idle for 45 minutes to an hour of driving then suddenly start to creep down south of 15? My friends renix jeep did the exact same thing and I don't get it. The oil temp should be relatively stable after 20 minutes or so. Thanks don Hahaha

But does that filter have the ADBV? Was it designed to be installed upside down?

Personally, I wouldn't sacrifice the properly designed filter for one with larger capacity given the size of our oil pans.

What oil are you using?

Have you ever checked your oil pressure with an actual mechanical gauge? Our senders/dash gauges aren't the greatest you know.

You could try this to see if your dash gauge improves:
Improving the Instrument Panel Ground
The ground point for the complete instrument cluster on your XJ or MJ is located up under the driver’s side dash. If you lay on your back and look up under there with a flashlight, without wearing a hat, you will see a black wire attached to a shiny piece of metal almost directly above the hood release ****. The screw will have either a ¼" or 5/16" head on it.
This ground point is responsible for handling the ground circuit for the following items: Dome lamps, Seatbelt and key warning, trans comfort switch, wiper switch, headlamp switch and delay module, fog lamp switch, cargo lamp switch, all instrument panel grounds and illumination, power windows and door locks, cruise control dump valve, and a few more things.
The problem is that where the ground point is located does not have a good contact with the chassis where the ground should be. The solution is simple.
Make up a jumper wire with #10 gauge wire about 10" long. On one end, crimp on a ¼" round wire terminal. On the other end, crimp on a 3/8" round wire terminal.
Remove the screw from the existing ground wire and attach the small terminal of your jumper so that the original wire and your new jumper share the same attaching point, one over the other.
Look above the driver’s side plastic kick panel just forward of the top of the hood release ****. You will see an 8mm stud there. Attach the large terminal end there with a washer and nut over it tightened securely.
**Special note for Comanche owners: Make your jumper wire 12" long and attach it on the driver’s side kick panel close to the fusebox on the 8mm stud.**

Revised 11-29-2011
And, when you're mechanically checking your oil pressure do this:

I've used the mobil 1 m1-301 bigger filter on my jeep since I got my first one in 2005. More oil is always better.

More is better as long as the filter you're using is designed to be installed upside-down and has a quality Anti-Drainback Valve. If it doesn't have the ADBV, you get dry starts every time and might as well have a Fram on there.
