Default Anyone else?

Just curious. Some days my Jeep runs like a champ and some days it sounds/runs like its trying to blow itself up.

I don't know if there is any real diagnosis for this I just find it strange.

Curious if anyone else notices anything like this.

My 96 does this too. Been running great for a while, then today I get in and it seems to be idoling a little rough. Tomarrow it will run good again. In other words , agreed.

Have either of you tried to clean the IAC vavle if its running rough? You could try that, there usually a cause for rough or erratic idle, and starting issues.

Yeah, I still need to do that with mine. IAC. As well as the crank pully needs replaced. It wobbles some. Not a lot but enough to make the belt make an awful sound and a slight tap from the wobble too.

Glad I am not the only one who has the moody XJ though.

Quick question on the IAC valve. I tried taking a quick look in the Haynes and didn't see it mentioned. Where is it located and what does it look like. Thanks.

I have a 96, so its might be different for you. Mine is on the throttle body.

My crank pulley wobbles a little too, it LOOKS like all I have to do is unbolt the old one and bolt on a new one, but things are never that easy on the Cherokee, I wonder what nightmare I'll be getting myself into?

Yeah...things always look simpler than they really are. I'm not sure what all is involved with taking that off and replacing it. I think I heard somewhere you need some kind of puller for it but I don't know.

I tried briefly looking up that part on napa's website but couldn't seem to find anything. Unless it's also known as the harmonic balancer. Don't know though.

They are different, the 87 is a Renny, and the 96 is an HO, so the systems are completely different. Hit up BlueXJ, he can help with most of your Renny issues!! 5-90 is a great source for tech info on the Renny system as well!! HTH!!
