For $650, do you suppose he'd make the doors fit?

While I'm not particularly interested in soft doors on my XJ, I've made a bunch of soft doors for Piper Cubs and Super Cubs.

Don't know why those wouldn't work, and shockingly, they'd fit the freakin' door opening....

Get yourself some 3/4 inch .035 or .049 wall 4130 chromemoly steel tubing. The round kind, because once you get used to welding round, you'll never want square again. Round has more options for joints than square, you see.

I build a jig out of ply (I just love the smell of burning wood) and weld it using a Meco O/A torch and itty-bitty welding road or coat hanger.

Once I've welded it, I cover them in dacron, and heat shrink it with a household iron, or weld on clips to hold the lexan, if they're going to be clear.

somebody just needs to measure out their doors and go for it! itll be cheap and dont use pvc! just some light metal, with like a low angle lower half door with some heavy fabric (preferably a plastic coating on one side) and stitch/staple whatever and you could always go to a fabric shop to have them stitch it up pretty heavy duty.

For the waterproofing, just use a few coats of paint. Exterior latex works pretty good on cloth; though make sure you use something UV-resistent, so the doors don't sun-rot off the frames.

Plus, in lieu of stitching, there are various kinds of glues and tapes that are made to join fabric

I would think that using aluminum angle riveted together would work "okay".
