those MJ doors gave me an idea, what if you attached one of those heavy duty zippers around the door opening and made an all soft door to fit it and then be able to zip them on and off, it wont keep you warm but it'll keep you dry ... might be kinda noisy too, anyway maybe it'll spark an idea from someone else

I'd get sick of having to zip my way in and out real fast. Doors opening is a much better plan.

I personally would not remove my doors. If I want the open Jeep feel then I would get an open Jeep. JMHO.

I don't think it's about having an open jeep feel(although it is cool....), it makes wheeling technical obstacles easier when you can see your tires without having to be hanging out the small window opening.

That's what spotters are for isn't it?

it does give you a freedom feeling and i cant afford a wrangler and i like the looks of my xj more than a yj (only wrangler i can afford besides a totalled tj)...and i like the look of xjs more than tjs anyways. its also hilarious to see peoples reactions when theyre like "wait, arent wranglers the only jeeps with removable doors?"

plus yeah it does make obstacles easier to see but like today when i was wheeling with my friend, he got stuck on a rock pile and i had to spot him off because he didnt know if he was gonna smack his diff or rockers. all came out fine. but when i self spot in my cherokee..with the doors on, its hard to juggle the gas and clutch pedals while leaning out the window.

aircruiser,

What ever you do modify your hinges. Make them so you could just lift the door or plexi off, so it quick to do in the rain!

If I were to purchase a Wrangler I wouldnt be able to take my three kids wheeling with me anymore. Or carry all of the stuff that I carry with us when we go.

To each their own. Id like to see some nice soft doors fabbed up. Sure could have used them last night in the cool air to help keep the wife and baby warmer.

Yes as you say to each his own. Just me and the wife as my baby girl is 38 so just the two of us. We have owned open Jeeps and prefer the security of a closed Jeep since it is our DD. We have ofter had open Jeeps that stuff got removed from while we were parked for a few moments, thus the desire for security, I enjoyed the freedom that the open Jeep afforded but now prefer the security! Just getting older I guess.

The Same Can Be Said for younger guys to, no one likes having their expensive AM radio stolen. Or in the case of my dad's old manual dodge D10, someone stole his shift ****.

i dont keep anything of value in my jeep..i still have the stock AM/FM/cassette deck. i dont leave the doors off over night or anything like that. i usually put them back on right as the sun is setting.

alien, the hinges are already modified..they are now two 5/16" bolts that are used as door pins. all you have to do is line up the holes and drop the pin through. takes like 10 seconds. just with the full doors, youve gotta get out a jack (to make things ALOT easier) to re-allign the door hinges and carefully line them up.

I must say I like that concept..even has a cup holder in the door...would be worth buying some old doors and see what you could do..
