Is there any evidence of anti freeze above the trans, from the block to head gasket seam, that you can tell. There is a freeze plug on the back face of the block covered by the trans. If the antifreeze is definately coming from inside the area of block to trans, I'd have to go after that freeze plug. The plug exchange is not a significant problem, the real task is you have to pull the trans out of the way to access it. Also check the freeze plugs along the side of engine, exhaust manifolt side, to insure their condition, any leaks there that could be streaming back and appear to be coming from trans??

With the engine cold, put your hand on the back of the head and feel for coolant traces. There is a 2" freeze plug back there.
If that's where the leak is, the head has to come off.
