I have a 99 sport that came with the Blue trailer brake wire. I read that it goes the back panel along with the tail light harness. I think i found it, a single blue wire into a factory plug. My question is, were can i find the other plug so i can wire it to the back of the jeep?
is it better to just cut it off and splice an extension on?

Pics of what u have would help. Have u tried etrailer.com? I thought one end of the blue wire connected/plugged into the trailer connecter and the other end of the blue wire terminated at the trailer brake controller at/under the dash. Maybe something here would help.

My XJ did not come with a trailer hitch or trailer plug, so I had to put in the lighting controller and wiring myself... I just ran an extension from the end of the blue trailer brake wire at the back of the Jeep down into the 7-pin connector mounted under my bumper...
I'm not sure if some XJ's came with a factor harness that runs to the outside of the Jeep or not, so I'm not much help there...

My guess is, if that blue wire goes into a plug/connector, it's not for trailer brakes, but I don't know for positive sure. The easy part would be running a blue wire from the rear up to the dash where the brake controller would be mounted. Maybe this site will help.

Trailer brake controller runs $100-$150. Trailer lights "T" connector $20-$30. 4 pin/7 pin adapter $20. <$200 should get u set up to tow a trailer with brakes. If u r towing a trailer big enough to have brakes, better install a auxiliary tranny cooler on the XJ ($75-$100).

I recently installed a T connector and plan on getting an aux trans cooler. Unless I hear other wise, i will plan on splicing a longer wire on to the factory Blue one.
