Another P0205 code issue
I drive a '98 and about 2 months ago i got an engine light and code p0205 and sometimes p0305. I checked everything i could think of, wiring, continuity, voltage to the injector. I also did a tuneup with cap, rotor, plugs etc. The light kept coming back on so i swapped #4 injector with #5 injector and everything worked fine (doesn't make sense to me) until yesterday. While on the freeway i started feeling stumbling and on came the light. Pulled the codes and the same p0205. WTF. I searched this site but can't quite find a definitive answer. Any suggestions? Could this be fuel pump and if so why is it just affecting one injector? Also is it true that this jeep doesn't have a fuel filter or is it part of the pump? Also how much of an issue is the heat soak I've read about? I guess i need to get a fuel pressure gauge and check that out. Thanks for any help.

205 is injector for cylinder 5
305 is misfire for cylinder 5
With a misfire code that correlates with an injector code, concentrate on the injector circuit CAUSING that misfire.
I'm still betting that there is a problem somewhere in the wiring/driver circuit, connector, etc. for the injector circuit, cylinder 5.
This does not sound like heat soak and this is unlikely to be a fuel pressure issue.
BTW, the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump "assembly" on your 98, located inside of the fuel tank.

Thanks. I'll try to look at the wiring again tomorrow. Could a bad cap or rotor do this. The problem started shortly after the tuneup? The wiring goes into a large bundle. Should I try to undo the bundle? I hate wiring issues they are such a PITA.

I think you should concentrate on the "fuel injector" circuit for that specific cylinder.
Gotta tell you, these things can be difficult to find (especially if intermittent) unless you have wiring diagrams, a meter and the ability to use both of those things well. As well as patience. Lots of that.

Ok I'm getting frustrated. My p0205 issue went away for awhile but now is back. I went on a 400 mile trip a week ago without an issue and then two days ago I take a ten mile drive on the freeway and when I get to my exit the car is running like crap and the engine light is on. My fuel level was very low so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it. I've checked the wiring multiple times, I've swapped injectors, I replaced the TPS. I'm stumped. I don't want to keep throwing parts at this but I've read this could be caused by the temp sensor or the computer. I'm afraid to take it some where just to hear a mechanic say "it's your #5 injector".

This tread is from 2011 but I now have a P0205 P0305 code on my 2004 Cherokee L4.0. This car is in great shape except I no longer trust it in critical traffic. At times it will run just fine and then pop the codes again. Can be days, weeks or months between failures. I live in SF Bay area with crowded freeways, tunnels and bridges. It has 110k miles and I have changed ALL injectors (dealer suggestion), spark plugs and done normal maintenance. Even added Techron, just in case it is gummed up. Now the same codes are blinking at me. My local shop said to sell the car. If anyone has had a similar situation then any help appreciated. I am thinking the next steps are the wiring harness and them finally get a rebuilt computer. I read here that other items, TCP, fuel pump, etc, have caused this. What have others done with this problem?
This is a Grand Cherokee Limited WJ and I really like the vehicle. Both my local dealer and a well known local shop can't find the issue. I suspect a harness failure after reading this forum and will check with another shop that seems more Jeep experienced. I expected more than 110k miles.

Today I replaced the TPS and coil bar. Parts are cheap compared to shop time and I can install them so if parts throwing until it stops is my option I guess I will continue. My test drive today went well and no problems. I will wait a few days and see if it is cured or only sleeping.
Maybe the P0305 Misfire code lead to the P0205 Injector Failed code.
I was told the TPS is a fairly common and critical component. If so why doesn't Jeep say to replace it and the O2 sensors every 50k miles. Seems that the electronic car components have not arrived on the maintenance schedule yet. The TPS is absolutely a high wear item.
A shop told me the coil bar assy is a common failure too. Since this coil set is fired twice (power & exhaust stroke) it gets a lot of cycles. Again why not replaced as maintenance item?
It my WJ keeps running after my home repair work I will come back and report same. Dealer missed the boat on thos one.
