Default Another no crank no start question

Hi everyone, I have a 99 xj and took it up wheeling yesterday, parked it back at my house and went to start it that evening and would just click once or twice. So this morning i had my buddy jump start me and started right up. Now i held it at about 3grand for about a min and took my foot off the gas and would just die.
So at that point i was thinking fuel, but then i realized when getting a jump it started right up, no long crank.
My jeep was working perfect with no starting issues until yesterday. I dont have a multimeter here so off the gauge it looks like when car on engine off it shows 10v. so im guessing the battery is bad too, but what else....
I am also new to this forum and have had my jeep for 2 years to this day actually haha with no problems...
any help is appreciated
Steve

Easiest thing first, have the battery load tested, and replace if it's trashed.

o and even tho my friends car was still hooked up to mine via jumper cables it would still die...any ideas

From what your describing, I would suggest you look at the alternator. If it were the battery, it would continue to run off the alternator until you shut it off, then wouldn't crank again. First thing, as always, check the fuses, one is a 60A maxi fuse, I believe there is another 30A regular fuse that also controls it.

As to the volt gauge comment. My volt gauge reads about 10v when its off, I know I have a dead cell in my battery and that's why it reads low. Once it's started, it reads 14v. I still have plenty of cranking ability with the dead cell.

Battery, battery, battery. 10V is usually indication of a dead cell, I've seen them die multiple times with little to no warning, especially in warm weather.

1. Load test battery

2.Verify charging system is charging the battery.

A marginal battery will very often result in stalling of the engine. Extremely common.
