I have a 97 Jeep Cherokee, 4.0, with auto tranny. I too have the cluster with idiot lights. Can i just swap this cluster for a 97 or later cluster with the tach and oil pressure/ temp guages? Do i have to change the senders? Also what about the digital mileage readout? Can this be reprogrammed since i only have 77,000 original miles? I also read somewhere the check engine light will come on because the vin number on the cluster doesnt match the vin on the PCM. Is that true?

just so you know that people do read these....
i have no idea on such a new model. on my 87 i had to swap the senders and i made a note in the owner's manual that the gauge cluster was swapped and what the correct mileage is. (funny, this is the 2nd time the cluster has been swapped. the first was when my jeep had 5 miles on it)

I just changed mine today from idiot lights to guages. The check engine light didn't come on but I have the same problem with the miles. I have 92000 on my 2000 and the 2000 I got the cluster from has 188000. I called the local chrysler dealer and they said that there was no way to change it. They did however say, if I had ordered a new cluster that it could be set to the new milage. I did soldering in the military for about 4 years, so if I could find the correct chipset on the Idiot panel, I can just swap the chip. Does anyone know which chip it is? i can add a picture if anyone needs it.

You should be able to find a shop to reset the mileage on your odometer. I didn't mess with it because mine was very close.
There is no VIN matching between the cluster and PCM.
I love my new cluster. Go for it.

Thanks! I'm glad my jeep didn't have that, I understand why you call it that now.

I have a 94, i was going to add aux. gauges along the roof post on the driver side.
Would it be better for me to look for a instrument panel with gauges and a tach already? I know it would be more a personal decision, but am looking for imput.
thanks
