Default annoying turn signal

so I've been slowly fixing a '88 xj I bought a few months ago, one really annoying problem is that the turn signals will stay solid and not flash. I had a bad bulb and I replaced it thinking it would fix the problem, and it did for about five minutes. I don't know what to do with this thing, I've taken apart the dash and pulled the cluster out, but I don't know my jeep all that well yet so I didn't touch it. If you guys have any ideas or solutions it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried replacing the signal flasher relay? In my 2000, it is a small black box under the steering wheel (remove the knee guard). I'm on my 4th flasher in my car

I haven't tried that buy I will check that out. I have a bunch of small electrical problems, so I'm wondering if it's something bigger causing everything to go wrong, or if god just hates me and I have to replace everything.

The trailer harness is a common place for electrical issues to stem from. All your lookin for is a place on wiring that is cracked, worn and/or corroded. Be methodical and start with the actual harness at the end of wires. Any place exposed to the elements or where the wires go thru grommets is a good place to look. Move the wires around to see if anything breaks and also to be able to inspect all 360* of said wires.

If it was only flashers that were not functioning properly I'd say relay, but there is more likely a short or bad ground somewhere. Make sure all is clean and well grounded at the battery and then start looking over harnesses in general.

Honestly, it's most likely the relay under the headlight switch. These are a common thing to go bad on XJ's. If that doesn't do it, then i'd start tracing wires.

I'd hate to waste another thread on my own ('90 XJ), similar problem, so I'll just spit it out. I found that when trying to use my high beams, the stalk will not hold into position. It does work and activate the high beams, but only as long as I hold the stalk back. Would that be the switch itself, or the stalk, that's faulty?
