I originally thought that I needed a new belt so I got one and the problem still persists basically there is a whine coming from my pulley system since i went off roading a couple weeks back. I just did a A/C Bypass pulley a half an hour ago and its still there so its not that but it is coming form that side of the engine and the only thing left is the fan and alternator. Basically it sounds like an obnoxiously loud supercharger whine. any ideas? thanks.

Hard to tell from my phone. Did you check the see that all of the pullies spun freely when you had the belt off?

 

did everthing spin free when you had the belt off old trick get a pc of hose three feet or so garden hose works good stick one end to you ear stick the other end in all areas untill the noise gets the loudest theres the problem

 

Could be crap in the bearings or workings of the alt. You would feel the grit when spinning the pulley.

 

Yeah everything spins freely but the alternator didn't spin as smoothly maybe a little girtty and I did do the hose trick and it seemed like it was coming from the alternator but I guess im just looking for confirmation that a sound like that could come from a little dirt being in the alternator. I'm not trying to get a new one if i don't have to though. do yall think it'll work itself out or will I have to get a new one, it still works properly the sound is just obnoxious.

 

It may chew up the bearings and lead to an early death.

Yep, Swapped the Alternators and what a difference. She purrs beautifully again and I'm getting a much higher reading too!
