hey guys im new to here. i just got an 88 xj 4.0 aw4 for 300 and ive been straightening out everything as ive been driving it. i just started a new job so i dont have any money. haha. but my alternator is bad and i cant afford a new one but i have store credit for a junkyard that only has a stripped 97 cherokee. is there any alternators that will just bolt in even if theres a little modding? i dont really care about how much power it puts out as long as it isnt lower than stock. some help would be nice please as i have to charge my battery before i go anywhere. thanks alot guys!

What you may want to do is going to an Auto parts store online and look up an alternator for your year as well as a 1997 and see if they are the same part number if they are you are home free on that but you may have a little trouble with going from ODB0 to ODB2 they didn't change much of anything on the cherokees from 84 to 01, a second place to look is craigslist, there is always someone parting out an old jeep and you might get lucky and find a guy selling it for $20, good luck and hope my info helps.

i forgot to mention i did get the alternator off the 97 and it bolts up completely different. i would just bring in the alternator but i need to drive it to the yard to pull it and they wont let me take mine off there. plus its a pain in the *****
