I know I have a vacuum leak somwhere.. I have the vent problem where only the defrost blows until I hit about 55mph. Something else that happens is that the needles in all of my gauges drop dead like the car is off, then back up after no specific reason (flooring of the throttle, etc).

I inspected my vacuum ball and there isn't one hose connected to that thing. Is there a schematic for the vacuum line down there? How do I find out what's supposed to be connected to the ball, etc?

Vacuum leak not the cause of gauge issue probably. Gauge issue is common problem of instrument cluster connection being loose/dirty. Does your odometer read "no buS" when this happens? Next time that happens, push firmly the instrument cluster to reseat the connections. Then do this:

And clean the connections with some CRC Lectra motive electric cleaner.

 

See if you have vacuum at the fitting with no hose with the engine idling.
