My alarm goes off when i unlock my XJ. I can turn it off by unlocking the hatch but is there anyway i can stop the alarm by just unlocking the front door? Any suggestions?

 

factory or aftermarket alarm?

typically an alarm system comes with a remote. and the remote is the only thing that's supposed to deactivate the alarm, short of pulling the fuse.


I'd remove the entire alarm system and repair the factory wiring, if it's aftermarket. they are nothing but trouble.

 

I believe its the annoying 91 factory alarm.

Problem with the system is the lock switches that deactivate the alarm.

They are clipped onto the inside end of the lock cylinder with a small wire hairpin clip.
These clips are JUNK.
They do not hold the switch on for long.

You can remove the door panle and you will find a small red switch laying there. You can try to re-install it, but I can tell you now, it won't last long.
After three-four door closings the switch will pop off.

I tried glue, I tried tape.
Finally I found two solutions that work:

1- Don't use alarm (Can be done by NOT locking doors with PDL switch--do it manually)
2- Get used to unlocking hatch first
