Default 30-43LE transmission

Wanting to see if I can get some insight from someone on here about the 30-43LE transmission and if you know if it can be installed in a 2000 Jeep Wrangler with a 4.0L? Would appreciate any input at this point. Thanks!

I have read all the things about the aw4 transmission, model 30-42le. That is what is in my jeep, 98 cherokee. I need to rebuild it, it is grinding and now there are metal shavings. Does anyone know where to buy a rebuild kit, I checked my local auto parts store and what they have does not work. I called the dealership and they said that this is not the standard transmission for my jeep. I knew it had a used one in it when I bought it. Can anyone help me. I would appreciate it.

Rock Auto has rebuild kits for the AW4 for about $340: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,8512

though most people just replace their AW4 with a good used one from the salvage yard when they (rarely) fail, it is around the same price as the parts or less and a lot less work.

Thanks for the information. What my jeep has is from a salvage yard and it is lasted a year. I am afraid to go that route again.

Either way make sure to flush or replace the cooler and lines or all the "crud" (clutch material and metal shavings) from your failing trans will make its way into your rebuilt or replacement trans and cause it to fail in short order.

In addition the AW4 uses Dexron III/Mercon too, ATF+4 is known to cause slipping issues (in case you weren't already aware of this).

It is also important to note that the rebuild kit does not include the solenoids so if these are bad you will need additional parts. The TPS (throttle position sensor) and TV(throttle-valve) cable have significant effects on the transmission so make sure these are good (TPS) and adjusted (TV cable).

Thanks for the information, I am having a hard time finding a kit that works. I did not thing it would be that hard. This transmission was not what was originally what was in the jeep so no one has rebuild kits.

Huh?

Go to your local tranny shop and see if they can get you a kit.

Gotta have some numbers on it, right?

I fail to see why there's any problem at all.

For what? If you asked for 30-43LE you won't get any hits from the parts counter idiots. It's a 2WD AW4 http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/aw4.htm
