Sounds like one of your vac hoses has lost pressure. Generally default placement for the vents is defrost in the event of system failure. Is it at any speed, sitting still...etc

Any info for a 97 grand Cherokee?
This is what's happened and been done.
Noticed air only came out middle dash vents.
Ran to google and it said to look at the vacuum lines , on the drivers side I fou d that some type of filter was missing from behi d the headlight area but these lines say they are gas vents or evap lines.
On the passenger side vacuum lines. The rear port on the intake says it goes to cruise control, climate control and 4x4 .
When I traced the line it come out the port then to the firewall where there is a capped vent. Then it goes to the fender and to the front of the jeep, t's off at the cruise control and goes under the battery tray where there is some type of canister attached and it only has one line stops there.
Since the battery was out the power was off for over an hour.
A friend showed up as I hooked the battery back and while chatting and not paying attention I started the car and before I knew it was turning the dial and the vents changed from middle to defrost to floor as I changed the switch around. Happy dance!
Then went in and changed for dinner when I started the jeep I then noticed it had returned to the middle no matter where I put the switch?
Went to junk yard to get the hard line vacuum tubes and saw a car with most of the dash put, so I pulled the climate control unit.
Put the vac lines back in place then put in new controller which worked until I placed it in defrost it then gave an "er" in the display ?????
So back to square one. I did not see any vacuum line on the controller as other posts have said
Any help ???
Thank
Jon
