Default 94 xj running like crap!!! what ya think?

one very cold morning driving to work jeep shoots all coolant out and i pull off and turns out radiator cap shot off. so...changed thermostats figured it was bad put new coolant in it.... fired up but was running sluggish and check engine light came on.... so took thermostat off went exchanged for new one and same... its not popping open to allow to circulate from head to upper radiator hose...... so... changed out water pump and sadly same thing.... now took off thermostat to see if will flow and its not building much pressure after 15-20 mins of being started and also it only itles sometimes.... for most part just putters off i have to keep foot on gas barley to keep running ....no white smoke to coolant coming out tail pipe nothing ..what do you guys think??....

could be a replacement part was faulty. it happens. does heat work well? could be a heater core plug, or radiator plug, or a line. how well have you flushed/back flushed your system?

so its deff. not a head gasket issue... um... i hope... my roommate has had a hell of a time with her car, and so far the source of all the frustrations were traced back to the head gasket. got entire engine replaced by the company that sold the car, only to have more head gasket issues. so idk? im stretching for answers...

1. You said a check engine light came on. WHENEVER this happens, you must pull the stored code for codes/guidance. Use your Jeep's OBD technology.

2. Running a compression test would not be a bad idea here. An overheat can toast a head gasket. Low compression on two adjacent cylinders would indicate a bad head gasket.
