My stock air filter box is warped to the point where the filter wont stay in place. I'm wondering if I should try and replace it OEM or go with a cone filter kit or something. I have been having trouble finding an OEM replacement online also, I would have thought it would be more available. Do yall think either one is better than the other? If theres a good kit that will fit a 90' XJ, i have noticed alot of the more popular ones are 91 onward. Also, on the stock air box, before the actual box on the intake port there is what appears to a valve port that breaks off to the left to go directly to the exhaust pipe. Mine was wide open, is there a hose that should go there and what does it do? I know that was alot can anyone help? Thank you!

 

i have the same dilemma as you, my air box is warped too. im going to get one from the junkyard. there's lots of pre 91 cherokees to chose from so im sure i can find a decent box. as for the valve thing, its vacuum actuated and there is supposed to be a tube that runs from the exhaust to the intake. i think its supposed to help warm the engine up.

 

Yea had to go to the salvage yard too, mopar isnt making them anymore
