Default Air Conditioning Recharge

My air conditioning pump keeps cycling. The air did blow cold this summer but not so much now.

When I check the pressure on the low side with a single gauge refill kit, am I looking at the pressure when the air conditioning pump is running? Because the gauge needle jumps low to high depending on if the pump is running or not.

If it continues to leak, can I buy a refill with dye to track the leak?

Thanks

Yes, the AC needs to be on in order for you to get an accurate reading. When it cycles off, the pressure will read into the red, but when you hear it cycle on, that's when the correct reading will come up.

I believe you can purchase a recharge kit with dye already in it, but you will probably need a blacklight also if you don't already have one.

Thanks, that's helpful. The going into the red part was making me nervous.

The pressure stabilizes once it gets near normal. Tracing the source of the small leak is another issue.
