After market stereo issues
Hate to write a book, sorry. Bought 16 yr old daughter a 1991 Cherokee. She had to have! Had a JVC after market stereo installed at best buy. Stereo seems to play when it wants to play. Sometimes no power other times power. Took back to bb, they played with it, said JVC harness was bad. They rigged it and said it should work. It did, till I turned jeep off and restarted. Went right back, they said order another JVC harness and they will install. Ordered and recieved new one. They installed, worked for about 2 hours then cut off. They said on older vehicles that the wiring gets old and this happens! Everything else electrical works. Windows, lights, etc. (except ac blower works only on one speed). Any ideas? Should I take it somewhere besides bb? What about some type of direct connections just for the power on and off? Thanks for any help. Just want to add, that I have searched here and googled in an attempt to find the answers. Seems somewhat common, but never really have discovered the solution!

I'm not sure about the radio problem. But I am betting that the blower works only on the highest setting #4. If it is you have a bad blow motor resister. It's only a few bux at just about any parts store. It's located on the passenger side under the dash behind the glove box. It's a pretty easy fix. Good luck on the radio problems.

It is possible the stereo itself is bad. If there is a faulty component inside the stereo it may be going out once it gets warmed up. BB should have also tried replacing the stereo(if you bought it there) and see if that fixed the problem.

Jvc radios are notorious for having problems. When it cuts out get a multimeter and check voltage on the yellow and red wires. Yellow should have 12 volts constantly and red should have 12 volts anytime the accessory or ignition is on. If either of the wires don't have power, then it's a wiring issue. If they both do, then it's a radio issue. I would also run a new ground before you replace the radio because the factory ground could be bad too.

remember to check the little things first like a faulty ground or something of the sort. they can be pesky little buggers.. the blower is probably the resistor, its up under the passenger side of the dash with the blower itself, looks like this
