Default Adding Cruise Control to '95 Cherokee

I do a lot of long weekend trips and am toying with the idea of putting cruise control in my 1995 Cherokee 4.0 auto. I've searched around on here and found a few threads on the subject most saying it's not that hard to do etc but by chance can someone who's done this give me a more step-by-step what I need to change so I don't over-look something if I raid a Jeep in my local salvage yard? I'm sure a lot of the components are pretty obvious but I'd be worried about overlooking some smaller things. Thanks

Although I've never tried I would think it would be hard to pull the parts from a salvage yard as I think that the wiring would be routed along with the other wiring for the vehicle.

The cruise will need a vacume line to run the actuator, you'll need to hook up to a speed sensor, brake light, clutch if it's manual tranny, power, ground, and of course the switches for the control (which in later model XJs is in the steering wheel)

The other option is to buy an aftermarket cruise which will come with all the parts and you'll just need to hook up those same connections. Usual charge from a retailer to install a cruise is about $350, might be $200 if you install it yourself. It's easy if you know what you're doing, not so if you don't.

Actually it's quite easy.
The car manufacturers found that 1 wireing harness was cheaper than building umpteen dozen different ones for each type of option list.
I'll bet all the wires are already there and all you have to do is find and install the components.
Get a hold of your jeeps parts breakdown here http://www.xjjeeps.com/tech_referenc...section=2&ID=0
and find the things you'll need to look for at the wreckers.

OK, I just added cruise to my 95 today and it only took about an hour! I got the parts from the JY for 25 clams, best 25 bucks I ever spent!...The wiring is already there, so all you need is the clockspring under the air bag, the servo, cables and mounting bracket, (that are all conected and come off in one unit) and the switch under the steering wheel. That's it...Tip: when removing the clockspring (which comes off after you remove the airbag and steering wheel) be real careful because there are 2 tabs that hold it to the steering column, one at the top and one at the bottom. They're EXTREMELY fragile and WILL break off if you're not careful! Before taking the wheel off, remove the switch and disconnect the wires by lifting the tab and pulling it off. These wires are part of the clockspring and if you try taking the wheel off first, chances are you'll over extend it and break the tabs off the clockspring! You can see the upper tab, so pry it back with your finger and pull the plastic pin out, then you'll need to get to the bottom tab, but you can't see it, so study how the top one works, then GENTLY pry the bottom tab back with a screwdriver and the clockspring should come off in one piece...The Jeepsareus folks are great people and the have the instructions in a pdf file that will show you how to do it...Good luck!
