Default Actuator from the headlight switch just came out

So when turning my lights on today the actuator from the headlight switch just became loose and came out. I looked online a little and found normally it comes out when you push a little button under the dash so I tried it out while trying to put it back on, nothing worked.

Now of course I could replace it, but I was just wondering if anyone had a similar issue and if there's a fix for it, or it has to be replaced? While looking at replacement, prices range from 20 bucks to 60+. Is there any brand more recommended if I have to look for a new one?

Thanks!

If you have or can get NAPA in Canada, Echlin electrical parts are usually OK.

Of course I did that, it's just loose. I tried pushing the button while putting it back in, didn't work.

Yeah. The pushing of the button is done ONLY for removal.

But your switch may be FUBAR anyway.

i have a few here, depending on what year your xj is. they changed the leads between renix and early 90's.

just read yours is 96. mine won't work for you.

but hit up a local wreckers, they shouldn't be very much and are quite easy to pull.
